  When something great is created, the path is one of the goals. Starting from the idea, a vision, the construction progress leads through a certain planning process and management by Steinmann Architekten to completion. A vision becomes reality.
  Steinmann Architekten remains in contact with the client, service providers and contractors and coordinates and communicates during the entire construction phase. So all those involved are always up to date and see progress.
  For us it is important to see, understand and on that basis plan and support the construction activity as a process. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Great things need time. They have to grow and thrive.

    VILLA IN MEGGEN
    This simple villa fits in harmoniously with the existing row of houses and with its surroundings. Thanks to the various nested building structures with staggered heights, the building fits in admirably on the existing plot.
    The recesses and projections create exciting interior and exterior spaces. Thanks to the generous glass frontages facing the lake, the boundary between inside and outside appears to dissolve.
    The inviting front drive gives expression to the quality of the materials. Copper and textured plaster were chosen to emphasize the elegance and simplicity of the building.

    HOCHRÜTIHALDE, MEGGEN
    The desire for an additional garage space created an opportunity to improve the existing timber house with a redesigned terrace and the addition of a swimming pool. The additional parts of the building are adapted to the existing volume so as to seem as if they had always been there. In terms of colour, the entire house was treated with black rye flour varnish. The result catches the eye with its careful detailed design and impresses with a spacious roof terrace which takes in Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains in a breathtaking panorama beyond the infinity pool.

    Riedweg, Meggen
    The two-storey flat, sweeping new structure is sensitively integrated into the developed district. The choice of materials and the design concept are based on the surrounding chalet buildings that have all been designed with a solid plinth and timber superstructure. Deep recesses in the façades and striking roof structures provide additional lighting for the accommodation. Spacious protected outside spaces are created under the overhangs, some of which are impressive. The range of materials and colours is in the main restricted to exposed concrete, black-stained timber panelling outside and oak inside. Only the shady awnings executed in dark red provide a colour accent.

    Abendweg, ENNETBÜRGEN
    The design envisages two buildings. This allows the existing outdoor pool to be retained and profitably incorporated into the project. Both the three-storey buildings that, following the angle of the slope, have their floors set at different heights, are clearly orientated in the direction of the lake basin and are turned away from the nearby neighbouring building. This guarantees the most unobstructed view and most sunlight possible. Thanks to the deliberate irregularity of the volumes, the construction evidently blends with the slope.
    The terraced buildings with their floors set at different heights are characterised by the distinctive dimensions of the slabs between the floors. Profiled aluminium panels in matt black and wooden and metal window frames, also in matt black, are used for the shell of the buildings. Fabric shading elements have a warm, natural colour. Dark-treated timber ceiling soffits lend the houses elegance and exclusivity.

    At the client’s request a pavilion was designed which complements the villa and could be rented out as an annexe.
    The two-storey structure is laid out in a sculptural manner and stands out from the existing building thanks to its language of form and choice of materials. So the annexe as a building in the park looks like a sculpture. Nevertheless, the building structure of course fits in between the old trees.
    Inside, an open, loft-like space opens up and the rough concrete stresses this character. The one open side places the interior space in relation to the park.

    KREUZHUBEL, OBERKIRCH
    An elongated two-storey building structure divides the open space into different areas and is clearly orientated towards Lake Sempach.
    The one-storey garage annexe separates the private garden from the access road whilst high natural stone walls along the boundaries clearly define the outside space. The solid materials, the clear forms and unembellished details form the timeless character of the spacious house.

    Sempachstrasse, Hochdorf
    Because of the great variety of structures in the surrounding district, an individual form of architecture was deliberately chosen. The geometry of the building volumes is of an irregular prismatic form. Gable roofs are proposed for the form of the roofs. This is to be understood as based on the existing property and also as a reference to the rural location of the construction site. In its footprint, the form is intuitively designed and should be read as a total composition. The two different volumes “communicate” with each other and form an exciting individual ensemble. Attractive meeting zones and open areas are created in the flat terraced outside space which is divided in a differentiated manner.

    The residential building blends confidently but still sensitively into the mature Reidmatt neighborhood. The multi-family house contains 11 residential units.

    Rasiweg, Ebikon
    A replacement new build with seven small apartments is intended to replace the existing three-storey apartment block dating back to the 40s. The basement contains an underground garage as well as cellars and technical services rooms.
    The footprint slopes down on one side on each of the long sides. The sloping situation of the building, as with the old building, and the insertion of the footprint of the building into the plot, explain this geometry. The attic storey is differently set back on both front façades and in this way it staggers the volume.

    OBER HALTEN ENNETBÜRGEN
    The plot is situated on the southern slope of the Bürgenberg, just above the heart of the village of Ennetbürgen. The existing farmhouse is retained and forms an integrating element of the new development. An orchard with fruit trees, some of which are up to 100 years old, surrounds the property.
    The focus of the structural design for the new builds is the precise setting of the volumes on the steep slope. On the base-level floor, the individual buildings slightly overhang the contour of the land on the valley side. In this way, the careful integration of the houses into the plot is used to highlight the focus of the design. Unnecessary banking up and excavations can be dispensed with.

    Steinmann Architekten designed the new European headquarters of the US biotech company bluebird bio in Zug.
    A specific design was developed based on the company’s values and corporate identity. Here the main idea was the focus on designing an authentic and inspiring working environment.
  - Kreditfabrik
    Kreditfabrik AG
    Kreditfabrik AG is a young company which offers to deal with mortgage applications that are processed on behalf of financial institutions. For this new service, an old warehouse belonging to the firm of Feller in Horgen was converted to the new site.
    The basic idea of the design is intended to be strongly orientated to the firm’s corporate identity. The digitisation of the analogue data into an entirely virtual process. The old fabric of the warehouse, which was carefully gutted, offers the optimum atmosphere for this. Fittings and new surfaces were designed with materials left untreated so as to leave the warehouse’s industrial character on display. All the technical installations are exposed and permit rapid adaptation to every change of the free floating furniture.

    True to Basenet’s principles, the planning and design of the present extension project are based on the principle of “Added value thanks to
    innovation”.
    The starting situation is provided by two storeys of 970 m²and 600 m²floor area respectively. Because of the extent of the floor areas and the expected footfall, the internal connection between these two areas is a particular focus of the brief.
    The efficient and direct connection specified as the aim can be functionally ensured with the intelligent placement of two separate stairways.
    At the same time, this measure provides the core zone with precious daylight and creates exciting views. The stairway made of solid steel and designed as a sculpture refers in its form to the dynamic of the direction indicators and at the same time serves as a spacious meeting and communication zone.

  EXPERTISE IN DOCTORS’ SURGERIES AND CLINIC PREMISES
  Premises for a doctors’ surgery, dentists’ surgery, clinic or outpatient clinic have special requirements: How must the premises be arranged for optimal business operation? Where are the entrances and exits? What has to be borne in mind regarding hygiene and sterility? Where do which connections belong? What colours and materials are suitable? What lighting is recommended?
  Many questions that Steinmann Architekten answers skilfully. We can do so:

    Sursee Ophthalmic Day Clinic
    After almost 20 years in operation, the plan was to adapt to the currently applicable regulations and to expand the existing day clinic by a second operating theatre.
    Another floor was rented in addition to the existing area and this is intended for administrative use.
    One focus of the design is the new stairway which was incorporated as a central connecting element between the two floors. Besides other design corrections, particular emphasis was placed on redoing the interior design.

    TROTTE SURSEE OPHTHALMOLOGY CENTRE
    The initial idea is based on designing the premises in such a way that they create a comfortable and secure atmosphere for patients and staff. The reduced use of fewer types of wood, combined with the clear language of form and precise, unembellished detailing, create calm elegance. The full-length panel curtains make the outside space look as if seen through a filter. The reduced language of form is consistently continued in the lighting concept.
  - Pfäffikon Ophthalmic Day Clinic
    PFÄFFIKON OPHTHALMIC DAY CLINIC
    Restructuring of a large office as an outpatient day clinic for eye operations. The focus is for one thing on the functionality and for another on the careful choice of materials. The allocation of the floor area to the patient area and the operating area with ancillary rooms works because the operating theatre is centrally located. A well-thought-out system of connections guarantees clear and undisturbed circulation of staff and patients.
